Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 Review

After my routine evening run on a windy fall evening I was appreciating the beauty of golden and reddish Platanus orientalis tree leaves. The setting was perfect. My friend came at his usual time and he was smelling different. He was radiating power, masculinity, and pure freshness, while wearing Eau Sauvage Parfum. And hence, I had to buy Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 reformulation, a cult classic and this review would tell you that why it is amongst my Best Dior Fragrance for Men.

Dior Eau Sauvage projects massive masculinity and yet freshness. A perfect daytime perfume for almost all seasons. The blending is non-traditional and in isolation, notes might not seem supporting, but the magical blending and mastery casts magical hypnotization on others

Bottle and Box Presentation

Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum Box is shown in the picture

Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 comes in a simple white box. The 2012 version used to come in a black box. There is nothing extraordinary in the box. It is as simple as it can be.

The bottle is as classic and as old-school as it can be. It gives a perfect barber shop cologne vibe once on the shelf. The yellowish liquid through the thick and wavy see-through matt glass gives an aged vibe. It is nothing fancy as you would find in today’s perfumes.

The black ribbon in middle and the black-wrapped cap perfectly compliments the classic vibe of the bottle.

My Experience with Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017

Dior Eau Sauvage Bottle picture

Once my perfume love grew it expanded into modern-day famous perfumes. As a novice, I just used to brag about my new perfumes from designer houses. My Sauvage EDP was a go-to perfume during office and I would just let anyone know that what I am wearing.

Then for the other day or in winter, I would wear Bleu De Chanel EDP, as I used to find it warmer than the Sauvage.

In my initial journey, I would only use famous perfumes, that was not unique. I did not know, how a theme plays its role in the blending and artistry of perfumes. I just did not know how to buy a perfume suitable for me and how to be different.

My quest for uniqueness grew with oud ispahan initially and my introduction to Eau Sauvage on a casual evening in the park made me in love with Eau Sauvage Parfum – A masculine fragrance that is perfect for official gatherings.

Ever since then, my affection for old-school classics has grown. A perfume in the market since 1966 is no joke. Like the iconic Chanel No 5 for women, Eau Sauvage Parfum must be used by every male.

The Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 is just rightly rounded off by Perfumer, Francois Demachy. The 2012 reiteration was darker and a little warm whereas the 2017 Eau Sauvage is well-rounded and fresh and can easily be worn with confidence all year round.

Let’s break down the notes and what Eau Sauvage Parfum smells like.

How Does Dior Homme Sauvage Parfum 2017 smell like

The Opening of Eau Sauvage Parfum – Pure Love

Bottom line up-front. Eau Sauvage 2017 is far better than the 2012 formulation.

The opening of citruses is so clean here. The Bergamot is likable to death, carried by Citron (another citrusy fruit). It is clean and yet not raw which can be a put-off.

In the opening phase, I can not smell Lavender and it comes into play towards the end of the opening phase and carried into the heart phase.

It is not into your nose-type citrus like the Sauvage EDT either. Not sweet enough to smell like a candy bar and not sour enough for a put-off. It seems pure and yet a bit synthetic.

You would just love Eau Sauvage Parfum, right from the opening which is a feel-good type. Citrusy accord is carried till the life of perfume on the body. Though after the first 30 minutes, it goes in the background yet is occasionally distinguishable.

Heart Notes – The Best Vetiver you would ever smell

The heart note of Dior Eau Sauvage is possibly the best phase in any Vetiver-based Perfume. I know it is a huge statement. But it is what it is as per my take on this classic male perfume.

The vetiver is very pure here and might not be easy for raw noses to carry. It is complemented by the sweetness of Lavender which is in the background and citruses from the opening. Vetiver being the dominant note here gives Eau Sauvage, a woody and earthy accord.

This phase makes this perfume more suited for Spring and Fall seasons and many people do not like this perfume outdoors on a summer day.

A very unique phase that is in no way replicated in any other perfume. Also, this is the phase that defines masculinity and maturity.

Base Notes of Dior Eau Sauvage – The maturity grows

Elemi is a tree that is native to the Philippines. The rubbery resin that comes out of the stem is famous for its aromatherapy usage. A woody accord that is paper-like and soothes the mind.

Although Elemi is used as the base note here, it is not dominant in dry-down. Vetiver remains the main player here and elemi tames it down. This Earthy accord of vetiver and woody smell of Elemi casts a magical smell in the dry-down.

This combo emanates maturity and seriousness. And this is the phase that might not be suited for a younger audience.

Projection and Longevity

Dior Eau Sauvage lasts for a good 8-10 hours on the body. Expect up to 12 hours in winter and fall. Do not apply too much. 3-4 sprays are enough for a day as this perfume starts exhibiting its true nature in the heart and dry-down phase.

The opening phase of citruses would remain there for 30-45 minutes with a decent projection and sillage. Although it is not a room-filler type yet people would notice you and compliment you.

The dry-down phase of Vetiver and Elemi would accompany till the life of perfume on the body for the day.

Dress and Occasions

For me, Dior Eau Sauvage is for anyone upwards of 30 years of age. It is a mature fragrance that is more suited for formal and serious gatherings.

You should be dressed nicely to carry this perfume with grace. A suit is a good combo with Dior Eau Sauvage. I alter this perfume in my office with Dior Homme Intense, another gem from the House of Dior.

And if I want to go a notch above and feel like a king, I would wear Nishane Hacivat.

Parting Thoughts on Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum Review

If you are new in your perfume journey then I would suggest that do not go for Dior Eau Sauvage in the early stages.

it is a serious perfume and emanates masculinity. For me, it is worthy of a signature perfume and the price point is too sweet for it.

Dior Eau Sauvage puts to shame many a niche category of perfumes and being a cult classic, it is here to stay.
