Sauvage Eau De Parfum EDP Review – My Love Story

This is not just the review of Sauvage EDP Parfum, but rather, how my love for the perfumes began.

Not long ago, I went to meet someone in his office. Just before opening the door of his cabin, a gust of fresh orange smell mixed with some spices hit my nostrils. It was majestic, mysterious, and pleasant.

It was loud and the projection was high. But not in a bad way. Different scents were well-toned and pleasant to smell.

Upon entering, I complimented him and as obvious, as it is, I asked which perfume are you wearing? And in the evening I bought my first bottle of Sauvage EDP by Christian Dior.

So sit tight, relax, and don’t be in a hurry. You would like to read every word of this love story presented in the form of a review of Dior Sauvage EDP.

Sauvage EDP, although not unique, owing to the mass appealing factor alone, is on my list of best Dior Colognes for men as well.

Inspiration of Dior Sauvage by The Master Perfumer

The master perfumer behind the magical blend of Sauvage Eau De Parfum is François Demachy.

A magician once it comes to blending, projection, and rounding off the sharp tones and yet mesmerising projection and loud sillage.

For Sauvage, I drew inspiration from wide-open spaces, harsh and noble at the same time.

I wanted natural ingredients of extreme quality in excessive doses, for a composition that is both raw and noble

Francois Demanchy

The story goes that Francis Demanchy drew inspiration from the twilight time at a desert.

Where the coolness of desert night is mixed with ablaze dusk hours.

And there is a profound scent in the desert at that magical hour.

The scent of wet and dry sand. And the fragrance of various shrubs opening up their petals. The aroma of spices at a distance is compounded by Nomads cooking the food. It is all there.

Dior Sauvage Review. Inspiration for creation

And the time is perfect for the wolf pack to come out. The leader shows his power.

It is all magical, mysterious, and yet so powerful. Well if you believe me, i feel it once i am wearing the Sauvage Eau De Parfum and that is the sole reason for the review.

The power and confidence that Sauvage gives you in the crowd are unmatchable. You feel fresh, dominant, and masculine and you know people are looking at you with Envy and Sauvage EDP has the power of Attracting the Opposites.

Sauvage EDP to men is as iconic as Chanel No 5 is for women.

Dior Sauvage EDP Notes

Top Notes of Sauvage EDP – The Love Begins with the First Sniff

bergamot note is in opening of sauvage edp once tested during the review of sauvage edp

Dior Sauvage EDP opens up with notes of Bergamot and hints of Sichuan pepper and Ambroxan.

Overall in the opening, the Bergamot is upfront, which gives Dior Sauvage a classy citrusy, rounded-off outburst. And this smell of Bergamot is not harsh and yet tapered.

The opening is pleasant, powerful, and sort of Elite. It gives you enough focus and projection. Bergamot/ citrus is there in the opening hour or so. And then it fades into the background and Spices takes over coupled with Ambroxan.

There are hints of rounded-off spices in the opening which is well tamed off with Musky and woody Ambroxan.

The Heart Notes-Love Grows Stronger

This is the phase where Sauvage EDP shines the most and this review is all about the magic of this phase. The Sichuan pepper is the dominant scent in this phase. Pleasantly its harshness is well balanced with Nutmeg and Star arise.

It is like a work of art. it is like calligraphy where all words are joined together and you don’t know where one is ending and where the other letter is starting.

This is the phase where your nose might be going blind, but others will smell you and compliment you. it is so powerful that people won’t be able to stop asking you, what you are wearing?

As the perfume develops, the aroma of lavender kicks in. Though very less and you need a good nose to distinguish it. But ordinary noses, won’t be noticing Lavender as a dominant smell. But it is there, giving a vibe to spices and Ambroxan somewhere.

In summer and Spring seasons, this phase is the most pleasing one.

The Sichuan pepper remains till the end alongside the musky and woody texture of Ambroxan.

The magic of a high concentration of juice, thanks to the EDP version, truly shows its wonders in Dior Sauvage EDP.

Base Notes of Dior Sauvage EDP – The Last Breath

In the dry-down phase Ambroxan takes over and spices alongside Sichuan pepper go at the back. Though the spices are there and you can smell them but the muskiness and woody ambiance sets in. Ambroxan is hard to tolerate if it is loud. But here comes the mastery of Francis Demanchy and he tells with his creation as to why he is the best in the business.

It is all so well gelled in the last phase which remains anywhere from 2-3 hours onwards.

This phase has a little bit of vanilla and more muskiness of Ambroxan in it and that is when you want to smell it again and again.

The Theme and Presentation of Sauvage EDP

Sauvage Dior EDP was an instant hit. partially because the EDT version was already established and was nicknamed Johnny Depp’s go-to perfume.

But the thing to remember is that although the theme of the desert night and wolves and masculinity alongside freshness is the same. Yet these are totally different perfumes in their characteristics. The opening and dry down seem the same and one is often confused with the other but trust me. It is different. I like the EDP version more and you must be getting some idea from this review of Dior Sauvage EDP.

The bottle is presentable, the black and bluish tone adds the mystery. It looks nice in your collection. And yeah I know that it is the same bottle for all the Sauvage perfumes. This is not good and I don’t know why Dior didn’t give it more attention. In my personal opinion there had to be a little more detail in the design of all the versions of Dior Sauvage.

The box is as ordinary as it can be. So nothing to say here. I like the box and bottle of Versace Eros over this one.

Dior Sauvage EDP review – My Experience and Suggestions

My love of this perfume never seems to die. I prefer it over the EDT version partially because of its longevity and the effects that it has on others. Citruses tend to help me focus more on myself and my work. And this is the case with Sauvage EDP as well. I feel confident and want to be more social. I can walk to anyone once I am wearing this perfume as I am sure that they would like to talk to me.

And if you ask me the question as to which Dior Perfume to buy for winters, then my answer is to go for Dior Homme Intense.

Dior Sauvage EDP Compliment Factor

A few days back, I was sitting in my office and a senior colleague came in. After talking a few professional things, he said that he just came due to no other reason but just to smell the aroma of my perfume.

He was tranced by the projection of perfume that was spilling around my cabin. And that shows you the power of perfume, where people want to come to you and chat with you. It has the same effect at parties and social gatherings.

Dior Sauvage EDP is a compliment monster. People who know and are comfortable talking with you would always compliment you. People who don’t know you would come to you and just talk with you. They would either ask a query or an address or would just find an excuse to talk to you.

So do not think twice and buy it if you are on the edge of making your decision.

For me, Sauvage EDP is better at getting compliments than Bleu De Chanel EDP.

Read my complete review to know why I rank Bleu De Chanel in some aspects better than Sauvage.

Age and Gender

This perfume is more for men. But women love to wear it also. Though inside their houses. Because it has more scent trail and it is loud. It has a sweetness with more spices and citruses that cast a spell on others.

This perfume is for all ages. But for me, I would like anyone wearing it who is 20 plus years of age. It is a rarity for any perfume which works so well across such a large age group.

Dress Combination and Occasions

You can easily pull-off Sauvage EDP with any dress combination.

Though on the formal it would give you more masculinity and power. It is not a gym perfume. The sweat and freshness of this perfume do not gel well. You can wear it for any occasion, from the office to social gatherings and parties, this perfume will never disappoint you.

But, do not wear it to beaches and pool parties. For the purpose of review of Dior Sauvage EDP, I tried it in the gym and on the shore as well. Wasn’t comfortable and did not get any compliments either.

It is not for harsh winters but during the daytime, in mild winter you can wear it. Fresh perfumes are more for summers but this perfume is an all-rounder and you can easily carry it in the fall, summer, and spring seasons.

Uniqueness and value for Money

Sauvage EDP falls in the fresh perfumes category. The opening is citrusy which turns to magical spiciness and muskiness with hints of woody ambiance and flowers. You will find these scents in so many perfumes in isolation. But combine them all with a twist and you get this wonder.

I would not call it a unique perfume. Being amongst the most desired designer fragrance, every other person has it. But that should not and must not bar you from buying your first Dior Sauvage EDP.

A 100 ml bottle of Dior Sauvage EDP costs around 158 USD or maybe a bit more as per the seller and place from where you are buying. At this price, you are getting one of the best in class fragrances. As per my review of Dior Sauvage EDP, it is the best 158 USD that you can spend on the perfume. Try it and you would not repent it.

Conclusion

The review of Dior Sauvage’s EDP was not an easy one. I had to detach my love of the perfume for the honesty of the review. My story of being in love with perfumes began with this one.

It is not easy to buy your first perfume. You often are confused and don’t know what to buy. If this is your first time buying any perfume then go for Sauvage EDP and you will not regret it.

As far as Designers’ fragrances are concerned, Dior Sauvage is the most sought-after perfume. It is a compliment getter that will boost your confidence and you will get addicted to it. You would always keep a bottle in your collection.

Do not compare it with any other fragrance because this perfume started the trend of citrusy, fresh, spicy perfumes with a kick of Ambroxan.
